5 Stars Toshiba is back in the LCD HDTV race
After reading, exploring, researching and hands on comparison I do not regret the purchase of this Toshiba LCD TV. I feel it is an outstanding value for a 52 inch lcd class tv. Toshiba’s new 5 gig processor combined with the 120Hz smooth’s action transitions as well as delivering outstanding darks and vibrant colors. My family room is well lit with sunlight during the day and there is no screen glare. The picture is very clear and sharp as well. The set is extremely impressive with an HD signal. It does almost as well with just a regular digital signal from cable/antena. I also hooked up a older JVC DVD player using just the old RCA cables and was extremely surprised at how good the picture looked. very close to looking as good as HD. I am getting Toshiba’s upscaling DVD player, its on order, and will be using it soon. The remote is a breeze to use. Its simple to find which format to use for displaying the signal. Toshiba has done their homework. They should get back some of their market share that they lost to Samsung. I would stack this LCD against any other 50+ inch LCD HDTV out there. I also am using a Philips home theater sound system and the audio is outstanding. The onboard speaker does an good job for every day viewing but won’t compair to a home theater system. I would buy this product again, hands down. Look closely at this TV if you are looking at 120Hz LCD HDTV’s. I also consitered the 55 inch 670U with the simulated 240Hz. Even if it was a true 240Hz I would have still opted for the 645U 120hz. I believe the 240hz to be over kill combined with the cost difference between the two. Over all I am extremely happy and well satisfied with this product.Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black

July 4th, 2009

I have used Toshiba’s XD-E500 Upconverting 1080p Extended Detail DVD that I ordered from Amazon several times now. I am very pleased with this Toshiba product as well. The picture looks outstanding. HD quality. i am so pleased that I didn’t get a Blue Ray player but opted for an upconverting unit instead. At $64.00 the Toshiba is at the top of its game. I did purchsase the 2 year replacement policy as some of the reviewers stated that they have had failures with theirs. All in all I am enjoying watching tv and movies at home like I have never before. The Ragza link also enables the use of one remote use for both the LCD tv and the DVD player. Nice. Look at these products if you are researching before buying. Just an awesome home entertainment center paired together. I never thought I would enjoy staying home to watch movies more than going to a theater. My family loves movie night with us or their friends. Again, very pleased with both of these purchases and they both perform beyond my expectations.

4 Stars An excellent TV, but . . . .
I agree with all the positive reviews here, but if you need to use closed captioning, you might want to read Freiwil’s review of the 46-inch Regza at Toshiba REGZA 46XV645U 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black He is correct in saying that you have to use the cable box’s closed captioning option because CC is not transmitted through the HDMI cable. I called Toshiba to confirm this, and the rep said this is true. I really hate that because the TV has many CC options for font, size, and so on that are not available via cable TV. Also, others have mentioned a set-up issue (the set-up screen occurring every time you turn on the TV) on sets built before a certain date. The Toshiba rep admitted this is a problem, but she mailed a card to insert in one of the slots on the side to update the firmware and avoid this problem in the future. For the price, this is an excellent buy. The technician who set up our TV said that he thought the Sanyo top-of-the-line had gotten around the problem with CC. I hope Toshiba can do that! However, the higher end Sanyo we priced was $1000 more than the Toshiba.

5 Stars Excellent Television at an excellent price
We moved into a new house and were on a mission to buy 3 televisions. After looking at all the televisions out there in our price range, and looking at all the displays next to each other, this one instantly popped out at us. I know we aren’t supposed to judge a tv when it’s next to a bunch of others, but I couldn’t help looking at all the other ones and how my eyes just kept coming back to this model. The blacks seemed darker, deeper and the colors were more vivid and crisper. I ended up buying three 52″ for the house. I’ll start of by saying that the picture is beautiful. It has full side inputs and a lot of rear inputs. One thing to mention is if you are hanging it, the rear inputs are almost impossible to reach and since they point straight back and not downward, there may be a problem with some cabling. Toshiba, like any other manufacturer, put their light up logo right in front and under the screen so it’s in the way when you are watching tv, however, they were smart enough to allow you to turn it off. The control on the tv isn’t great – it feels cheap and doesn’t light up, but does glow in the dark. Changing between channels is pretty quick, not like some tv’s where you have to wait a couple seconds. Watching Planet Earth on BluRay is excellent, except when there is quick panning, such as when they pan to follow a hawk, you can notice some jitter because the refresh rate isn’t as fast. I haven’t seen a football game on it yet so I don’t know how that looks. The sound is not very good, but then again I am not sure of many tv’s that have great sound. I have to really turn up the volume in order to hear it clear. It does have different picture modes such as sports, theater, store, etc. I find store to be the brightest, most vivid and yet retain some really deep blacks, however, this mode is not energy compliant. The tv itself is very sexy. It features a matte screen and it’s anti-glare is very good, expecially in our master bedroom where windows are next to and in front of where the tv hangs. The casing is a glossy black which does tend to gets fingerprints when touching it. Overall, I think this tv is well worth the price and you will be very happy with the picture quality. Take it from someone who owns 3 of them!

5 Stars Toshiba 52XV645U REGZA LCD TV
I’d had misgivings about purchasing such a product online, but some friends had done so with no problems, so I decided to try it. The TV arrived in great shape! The delivery service unpacked it and put it into the entertainment center. I had to hook the cable box, DVD player, games up, but that was no problem. The picture is fantastic! I sometimes felt like I was standing on the side lines watching the opening weekend of college football.

I have to wonder why people let big box stores like Best Buy charge them to deliver and set up their TVs. It really is pretty simple. The Amazon price was $200 to $300 less than any of the local stores that I used to evaluate the various sets and prices, and there were no shipping charges.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with both the choice of the Toshiba TV and the decision to purchase it from Amazon.Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black

Toshiba REGZA 55ZV650U 55 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240 Black

Toshiba REGZA 55ZV650U 55 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240 Black

The ZV650 Series takes LCD TV to the next level of picture quality, design, and features. ClearScan 240 raises the bar for picture clarity with fast motion video, the Deep Lagoon design creates a new level of design elegance, and the long list of new features and next-gen connectivity are more than you could ever expect. If you love watching Sports or Action Movies, ClearScan 240 will put a smile on your face. REGZA LCD TV with ClearScan 240 will make you feel like part of the action. ClearScan 240 combines 120 frames per second with a new advanced Backlight Scanning System to create a 240 Hz Effect. REGZA LCD TV with ClearScan 240 creates such a new level of picture clarity with motion video that you won’t know whether to stay glued to your seat, or to jump from it. You may watch TV at night in a dark room, but sometimes you may keep the lights on and have a bright room, or watch the game on Sunday afternoon with even brighter sunlight coming through the windows. Extra room light can lower the contrast on some TVs, but with CrystalCoat, you don’t have to worry. CrystalCoat stops ambient room light reflections from washing out the picture, creating 30%+ better contrast in bright rooms. Now you can enjoy the deep high contrast REGZA picture in all room light conditions. If you have ever been bothered by loud TV commercials or inconsistent volume when changing channels, Dolby Volume technology is the solution. Advanced algorithms monitor the audio during programs, when commercials start, and when changing channels. Louder programming is brought down, while lower programming is brought up. This ensures a consistent volume level with full dynamic range at all times. You can now watch your movies or videos, view your digital pictures, or even listen to your digital music, by just connecting a USB hard drive or flash drive to the USB Port on the TV. 5 Stars Toshiba REGZA 55ZV650U
Researched for a while, and was leaning towards a Samsung LCD until I came across this Toshiba. Just seemed like a better value to me given the size and feature set. Great picture, blacks seem fine to me despite some other commentary that I’ve read from others. I’m very happy with this purchase.

5 Stars Excellent TV – but
THis is an excellent TV. Picture quality is amazing and there is excellent connectivity ports on the back and side.

The viewing angle is amazing also – as good as a plasma. Can be viewed from all angling in our living room with no problems.

The only complaint is that occasionally the sound get weird – after watching for a while (2 hours or more) sometimes the sound gets distorted. When you turn it off and back on again it is fixed.

I not sure what is causing this but it may be that I have surround sound and I’m not using it?

Anyways – this happens very rarely and it is a very minor problem and may be something with my hookup.

I would recommend this TV – excellent TV.

5 Stars You can’t beat the price and performance…
This TV is everything I was looking for and more. You can’t get a better TV for the price; you can hardly get a better TV by paying more. I have a good friend who paid twice as much for a Samsung LED TV, his picture quality does not match the Toshiba.

The TV was delivered to my living room by a delivery company in town. I have to move every couple of years for my work so I was pleased to see the quality of the box the TV came in. It has latches down one side and around the entire bottom portion of the box.

It comes mounted on the stand and ready to sit on a piece of furniture. I didn’t wall mount so I am not sure how difficult mounting would be.

The TV looks gorgeous without it even being turned on. Toshiba did a great job on the design.

As I mentioned, the picture quality is amazing. I am a sports fan and haven’t seen a picture this nice until now. The Toshiba ClearScan 240 handles the speed of the games. All of the HD Discovery and Science channels are breathtaking. I have the TV sitting with 3 large windows to one side. I was concerned about how the light would affect the picture during the day. The TV is bright enough to overpower the light from the windows. It has an ambient light sensor and automatically adjusts the picture. It also has a special coating to prevent reflections of ambient light.

The features of this TV are amazing. Check them out at regza.com for yourself. I also considered Samsung and Sony. I found this TV to have better specs and features than the other brands. The price of the Toshiba makes it a no brainer.

5 Stars toshiba 55″ Regza tv
We replaced our 55″ Toshiba rear projector tv with this 55″ Toshiba HDTV and it’s everything that we had hoped for. The picture is beautiful, the sound is great and we just couldn’t ask for a better tv. I also feel that purchasing through Amazon gave us great confidence that the product would be as expected! The price was great and the delivery company was amazing!

1 Star Problem I got with Toshiba TV
I had a similar experience as PS “PS” had. My 52″ Regza got thick black vertical band after 14 months and became useless. Repair cost quoted exceeded a new unit price. I personally will stay away from Toshiba TV. A local service technician told me it is a common problem with Toshiba LCD panel. It is a shame because I loved my Regza so much and I would have recommended it for everybody if it did not fail so soon.

By the way, GE extended warranty only paid small fraction of replacement cost. It did not help much.

5 Stars Excellent TV
I bought this tv for my bedroom and it works wonderfully. I highly recommend this tv for people looking for a LCD tv. I have a Toshiba Regza and the Samsung out does it.

4 Stars So glad I bought the Samsung LN37B650
Pretty awesome picture quality. A lot better than the 720p 32″ Sony Bravia that this one was replacing. Some reviews or salespeople will say that 720p and 1080p doesn’t make much difference for broadcast programs, but I think the 1080p is noticably better. DVDs look better, too. If I had more space, I would have purchased the 40″ set instead of the 37″.

My only complaint is that sometimes text that scrolls along the bottom of the screen looks a little fuzzy for a while, then it becomes sharper and looks fine. This might have something to do with the interpolation mode (automotion?). This is the only reason why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 stars.

The TV was delivered by Pilot. They called ahead to let us know what time they’d be delivering, and they even showed up a few minutes early. They also helped us set up the new TV. There was also a printed manual in the box. Nice swivel base and remote control unit.

I also got a good price by purchasing it directly from Amazon. Took advantage of the email discount code. If I had waited, the cost of this TV would have been lower, but, hey, I’ve had a chance to enjoy it for a few months already. You can get this now at a very good price, and if you can redeem an electronic coupon, all the better!

1 Star Show up late and doesn’t even work
Purchasing a television through Amazon has now been the worst experience I have ever had with purchasing anything. I have never had to talk to so many people about so many problems. It started with a concern of te delivery date on my purchase. Then I finally recieved the product and it is broken. Now I am lost in a maze of customer service departments and people none of which can completely resolve the issue. I would not order at TV from Amazon if I were you. I am still embroiled in the issue two weeks after my order and still do not have a working TV.

4 Stars Good … but a few issues
I was looking to upgrade my setup from my old Sony Bravia 32 so I did some homework on the internet like most good consumers do these days. This TV was rated very highly by numerous sources including Consumer Reports. It had all the features on paper that I wanted so I decided to get it. When I first hooked it up my reaction was very positive.

The picture quality is wonderful. The color expression is rich and deep. It handles black levels incredibly well. Okay, good so far. I plugged in my XBOX 360 with a HDMI vr 1.3 rated cable and set it 1080p. This is where my reactions became mixed.

Wherever you go these days, people have TVs with 120hz refresh rates set up next to TVs that have the old 60hz in an attempt to impress upon you the difference. It looks great in stores like Best Buy and Sears… but it’s another matter at home. If you turn it to a slightly higher setting you may notice a strange aura around moving objects. After (again) checking online this is apparently a known problem with the technology that Sony and LG also suffer from. So I turn the blur reduction up and the judder reduction down. Good, it looks a bit more smooth without the motion artifacts… but wait. Every now and then it stutters as if it’s having a little difficulty keeping up. That’s strange… okay. I’ll turn the judder reduction down further. Know what? It still happens every now and then. It’s less of an issue that it was while I was still playing around with the settings, but it still bugs me a little.

In short, regardless of the problems with 120hz as a collective whole this is a good set for the money. The picture is good, the speakers are decent after they’ve been used for a few hours (they sound a bit flat up front, probably just needed some burn in time). However, know the the benefits and shortcomings of 120hz. It looks good if you can arrive at a decent setting, but it can still hiccup every now and then. If you’re a perfectionist this may bother you a bit more than it does me. Hopefully Samsung will come out with a firmware upgrade that addresses this issue somewhat.

5 Stars Awesome! ! !
First I would like to say that the delivery service also gets the best rating. They were just the best. I figured they would just set it inside the door and leave. They brought it into the bedroom plugged it in and tuned it for me. They did not leave until they were sure it was working properly.

I have always purchased Sony or Panasonic. I had a 42″ Panasonice Viera Plasma in my bedroom on a free standing stand. The stand just took up too much room. I read all the reviews here for several weeks before deciding on the Samsung. I even went over to BestBuy and watched my final two choices. It was Samsung the whole way. It’s light [30+ lbs.] and sits on a stand with wheels so I can move it much easier.

Colors are all vivid and make you feel like you are right there. Thank you Amazon! ! ! !

5 Stars Great Looking TV
I have wanted to get an HD TV for a while. I spent a weekend looking for one and saw this at a local store. I compared it to Sony, Samsung, LG and others and thought it had the best picture. The colors are better – clearer and more true to life, and it’s a lot less blurry than most TVs on the shelf. It provides a much clearer picture than regular or 120 TVs for less than true 240. Football, action movies and TV shows all look great. I don’t know how it would compare side by side with a true 240, but I’m not worried. It was on Amazon for less than the one store I found that carried it, so I ordered it. And it’s even cheaper now. The reviews I found online, such as CNET, were all favorable.

Delivery was free and took less than a week. Though the company Amazon had delivering it almost didn’t deliver it. I waited the day it was to show up and it never came. I searched my order for delivery company info, Googled them and called the local office. They had a driver bring it out at about 7pm, but if I hadn’t called, it would have been a few more days. That is the first problem with Amazon shipping I have ever had, but the first time it has not been USPS/UPS.

The box isn’t the cool, easy, lift off top. But since it isn’t real heavy, unpacking wasn’t too bad.

The TV is beautiful. The picture is great. I love the extra inputs. There are plenty for different connections. I can connect my laptop via HDMI and the picture quality is crystal clear. I had some problems with the remote at first, but I think it was just getting used to how it worked. What functions were active on what menu or setting.

I also purchased an LG Blu Ray home theater (LG LHB977) and they work great together. The LG has an extra HDMI input so my cable routes through it, simplifying the surround sound. And now that I have HD cable, I am more amazed at the picture quality. The Toshiba sound is great, but of course, not surround.

The TV supports plugging a USB device like an external hard drive into it and playing movies and videos from it. That function works very well. I have not tried using an SD card to view pictures.

I have had it for about 1 1/2 months and still love it. The LG Blu ray is pretty nice too. No complaints on it. Plus my wife likes the TV, so that is a great bonus. I love the TV and highly recommend it

5 Stars Excellent TV but . .

5 Stars Wonderful
I have it for a month or so. It looks and works great. Installation was super easy, colors are fine right out of box to me. We watched several blu ray movies and picture is breathtaking. So far I am very happy with purchase.

5 Stars First-rate for less!
I’ve had mine for about a month now and can’t get home quick enough to watch it every day. Compare it side-by-side with mid-level Samsungs and Sonys, and you’ll have to agree the picture is every bit their equal, and it costs hundreds less. I’m kinda picky and have never had a TV that I could leave in “Automatic” picture mode before, but I do now. Reflections from the glossy screen are not bad at all in my living room, the sound is better than in my other LCD TVs, and recent versions of the firmware have eliminated the setup nag at turn-on (mine, built in May 2009, does not have the issue.) I’m not saying it is the best TV out there, but if you give it a fair look you may just take one home. Toshiba has become serious about playing with the big boys in LCD TV, that’s for sure.

5 Stars New flatscreen
We are very pleased with the Toshiba REGZA 47-inch LCD HDTV. It has a wonderful picture, great color, good size and is user friendly. Would recommend this product to anyone looking for an LCD HDTV.

5 Stars Superb LED LCD TV right out of the box!
Ordered this TV around the beginning of August. Amazon shipping said to expect it on the 14th. It arrived on the 12th, lucky I had just returned home because I was all set for the 14th! Anyway, The delivery guy carries it in, takes it out of the box and set it on the stand for my old Sony Bravia.(Since I didn’t put the new stand together yet. He then helps me take the old TV down to its new location in the basement rec room. (Nice of him!) We plug in the new Toshiba and I connect it to my cable HD DVR box with the new HDMI cable I also purchased from Amazon. It works! Beautifully! The sound is better than expected. The picture, especially the HD channels is great and the colors and contrast are fantastic. Everything I expected and more. The Dolby sound leveling seems to work (still checking). Our collection of wide screen DVD’s looks great. Maybe because of the Resolution+ upscaling. So check out all the features and compare the price with the only LED TV somewhat similar: Sony’s BR8 series. I think you’ll be very pleased with this new Toshiba 46SV670U (55SV670U is similar). By the way, mine was manufactured in JULY 2009!

I’ll update this if problems develop.

Well, it’s now October and this TV is still the best. And it’s great to be able to plug in a SD picture card and watch a slideshow or plug in an USB flash drive and play music or other media.

I’ll update this if problems develop.

5 Stars Great TV – Amazing
Unless you want an inch thin LCD TV, this should be your TV of choice. I went to Sixth Avenue where they had an exceptionally large selection of LCD and Plasma TVs. This TV had the best picture quality of any LCD TV they had. I was planning on getting a Samsung 1080P 120Hz thin LED TV (could not quite swallow the price of the 240Hz) model until I read reviews of streaks in the picture quality when watching the TV in a dark room. I then moved on to the less expensive non LED Samsung 240Hz LCD TV which is still $400 more than this Toshiba. Luckily, the salesperson asked me to take a look at this TV first. This TV is back-lit LED which makes the TV thicker, but provides better picture quality than the side-lit LEDs in the thin Samsung. The 240Hz was a real bonus–especially in a TV that sells for this price. I have had the TV for a month now and could not be happier with it. I have had friends that visit comment that this TV has the best picture quality they have ever seen in any TV. This is the best 46-inch LCD TV you can buy that sells for a price that’s unbelievably low when compared to the competition. It might not be the thinnest LCD LED TV, but it does have the best quality picture in any LCD TV. It is just one awesome TV.
