5 Stars Toshiba is back in the LCD HDTV race
After reading, exploring, researching and hands on comparison I do not regret the purchase of this Toshiba LCD TV. I feel it is an outstanding value for a 52 inch lcd class tv. Toshiba’s new 5 gig processor combined with the 120Hz smooth’s action transitions as well as delivering outstanding darks and vibrant colors. My family room is well lit with sunlight during the day and there is no screen glare. The picture is very clear and sharp as well. The set is extremely impressive with an HD signal. It does almost as well with just a regular digital signal from cable/antena. I also hooked up a older JVC DVD player using just the old RCA cables and was extremely surprised at how good the picture looked. very close to looking as good as HD. I am getting Toshiba’s upscaling DVD player, its on order, and will be using it soon. The remote is a breeze to use. Its simple to find which format to use for displaying the signal. Toshiba has done their homework. They should get back some of their market share that they lost to Samsung. I would stack this LCD against any other 50+ inch LCD HDTV out there. I also am using a Philips home theater sound system and the audio is outstanding. The onboard speaker does an good job for every day viewing but won’t compair to a home theater system. I would buy this product again, hands down. Look closely at this TV if you are looking at 120Hz LCD HDTV’s. I also consitered the 55 inch 670U with the simulated 240Hz. Even if it was a true 240Hz I would have still opted for the 645U 120hz. I believe the 240hz to be over kill combined with the cost difference between the two. Over all I am extremely happy and well satisfied with this product.Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black

I have used Toshiba’s XD-E500 Upconverting 1080p Extended Detail DVD that I ordered from Amazon several times now. I am very pleased with this Toshiba product as well. The picture looks outstanding. HD quality. i am so pleased that I didn’t get a Blue Ray player but opted for an upconverting unit instead. At $64.00 the Toshiba is at the top of its game. I did purchsase the 2 year replacement policy as some of the reviewers stated that they have had failures with theirs. All in all I am enjoying watching tv and movies at home like I have never before. The Ragza link also enables the use of one remote use for both the LCD tv and the DVD player. Nice. Look at these products if you are researching before buying. Just an awesome home entertainment center paired together. I never thought I would enjoy staying home to watch movies more than going to a theater. My family loves movie night with us or their friends. Again, very pleased with both of these purchases and they both perform beyond my expectations.

4 Stars An excellent TV, but . . . .
I agree with all the positive reviews here, but if you need to use closed captioning, you might want to read Freiwil’s review of the 46-inch Regza at Toshiba REGZA 46XV645U 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black He is correct in saying that you have to use the cable box’s closed captioning option because CC is not transmitted through the HDMI cable. I called Toshiba to confirm this, and the rep said this is true. I really hate that because the TV has many CC options for font, size, and so on that are not available via cable TV. Also, others have mentioned a set-up issue (the set-up screen occurring every time you turn on the TV) on sets built before a certain date. The Toshiba rep admitted this is a problem, but she mailed a card to insert in one of the slots on the side to update the firmware and avoid this problem in the future. For the price, this is an excellent buy. The technician who set up our TV said that he thought the Sanyo top-of-the-line had gotten around the problem with CC. I hope Toshiba can do that! However, the higher end Sanyo we priced was $1000 more than the Toshiba.

5 Stars Excellent Television at an excellent price
We moved into a new house and were on a mission to buy 3 televisions. After looking at all the televisions out there in our price range, and looking at all the displays next to each other, this one instantly popped out at us. I know we aren’t supposed to judge a tv when it’s next to a bunch of others, but I couldn’t help looking at all the other ones and how my eyes just kept coming back to this model. The blacks seemed darker, deeper and the colors were more vivid and crisper. I ended up buying three 52″ for the house. I’ll start of by saying that the picture is beautiful. It has full side inputs and a lot of rear inputs. One thing to mention is if you are hanging it, the rear inputs are almost impossible to reach and since they point straight back and not downward, there may be a problem with some cabling. Toshiba, like any other manufacturer, put their light up logo right in front and under the screen so it’s in the way when you are watching tv, however, they were smart enough to allow you to turn it off. The control on the tv isn’t great – it feels cheap and doesn’t light up, but does glow in the dark. Changing between channels is pretty quick, not like some tv’s where you have to wait a couple seconds. Watching Planet Earth on BluRay is excellent, except when there is quick panning, such as when they pan to follow a hawk, you can notice some jitter because the refresh rate isn’t as fast. I haven’t seen a football game on it yet so I don’t know how that looks. The sound is not very good, but then again I am not sure of many tv’s that have great sound. I have to really turn up the volume in order to hear it clear. It does have different picture modes such as sports, theater, store, etc. I find store to be the brightest, most vivid and yet retain some really deep blacks, however, this mode is not energy compliant. The tv itself is very sexy. It features a matte screen and it’s anti-glare is very good, expecially in our master bedroom where windows are next to and in front of where the tv hangs. The casing is a glossy black which does tend to gets fingerprints when touching it. Overall, I think this tv is well worth the price and you will be very happy with the picture quality. Take it from someone who owns 3 of them!

5 Stars Toshiba 52XV645U REGZA LCD TV
I’d had misgivings about purchasing such a product online, but some friends had done so with no problems, so I decided to try it. The TV arrived in great shape! The delivery service unpacked it and put it into the entertainment center. I had to hook the cable box, DVD player, games up, but that was no problem. The picture is fantastic! I sometimes felt like I was standing on the side lines watching the opening weekend of college football.

I have to wonder why people let big box stores like Best Buy charge them to deliver and set up their TVs. It really is pretty simple. The Amazon price was $200 to $300 less than any of the local stores that I used to evaluate the various sets and prices, and there were no shipping charges.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with both the choice of the Toshiba TV and the decision to purchase it from Amazon.Toshiba REGZA 52XV645U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black

Toshiba REGZA 55ZV650U 55 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240 Black

Toshiba REGZA 55ZV650U 55 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240 Black

The ZV650 Series takes LCD TV to the next level of picture quality, design, and features. ClearScan 240 raises the bar for picture clarity with fast motion video, the Deep Lagoon design creates a new level of design elegance, and the long list of new features and next-gen connectivity are more than you could ever expect. If you love watching Sports or Action Movies, ClearScan 240 will put a smile on your face. REGZA LCD TV with ClearScan 240 will make you feel like part of the action. ClearScan 240 combines 120 frames per second with a new advanced Backlight Scanning System to create a 240 Hz Effect. REGZA LCD TV with ClearScan 240 creates such a new level of picture clarity with motion video that you won’t know whether to stay glued to your seat, or to jump from it. You may watch TV at night in a dark room, but sometimes you may keep the lights on and have a bright room, or watch the game on Sunday afternoon with even brighter sunlight coming through the windows. Extra room light can lower the contrast on some TVs, but with CrystalCoat, you don’t have to worry. CrystalCoat stops ambient room light reflections from washing out the picture, creating 30%+ better contrast in bright rooms. Now you can enjoy the deep high contrast REGZA picture in all room light conditions. If you have ever been bothered by loud TV commercials or inconsistent volume when changing channels, Dolby Volume technology is the solution. Advanced algorithms monitor the audio during programs, when commercials start, and when changing channels. Louder programming is brought down, while lower programming is brought up. This ensures a consistent volume level with full dynamic range at all times. You can now watch your movies or videos, view your digital pictures, or even listen to your digital music, by just connecting a USB hard drive or flash drive to the USB Port on the TV. 5 Stars Toshiba REGZA 55ZV650U
Researched for a while, and was leaning towards a Samsung LCD until I came across this Toshiba. Just seemed like a better value to me given the size and feature set. Great picture, blacks seem fine to me despite some other commentary that I’ve read from others. I’m very happy with this purchase.

5 Stars Excellent TV – but
THis is an excellent TV. Picture quality is amazing and there is excellent connectivity ports on the back and side.

The viewing angle is amazing also – as good as a plasma. Can be viewed from all angling in our living room with no problems.

The only complaint is that occasionally the sound get weird – after watching for a while (2 hours or more) sometimes the sound gets distorted. When you turn it off and back on again it is fixed.

I not sure what is causing this but it may be that I have surround sound and I’m not using it?

Anyways – this happens very rarely and it is a very minor problem and may be something with my hookup.

I would recommend this TV – excellent TV.

5 Stars You can’t beat the price and performance…
This TV is everything I was looking for and more. You can’t get a better TV for the price; you can hardly get a better TV by paying more. I have a good friend who paid twice as much for a Samsung LED TV, his picture quality does not match the Toshiba.

The TV was delivered to my living room by a delivery company in town. I have to move every couple of years for my work so I was pleased to see the quality of the box the TV came in. It has latches down one side and around the entire bottom portion of the box.

It comes mounted on the stand and ready to sit on a piece of furniture. I didn’t wall mount so I am not sure how difficult mounting would be.

The TV looks gorgeous without it even being turned on. Toshiba did a great job on the design.

As I mentioned, the picture quality is amazing. I am a sports fan and haven’t seen a picture this nice until now. The Toshiba ClearScan 240 handles the speed of the games. All of the HD Discovery and Science channels are breathtaking. I have the TV sitting with 3 large windows to one side. I was concerned about how the light would affect the picture during the day. The TV is bright enough to overpower the light from the windows. It has an ambient light sensor and automatically adjusts the picture. It also has a special coating to prevent reflections of ambient light.

The features of this TV are amazing. Check them out at regza.com for yourself. I also considered Samsung and Sony. I found this TV to have better specs and features than the other brands. The price of the Toshiba makes it a no brainer.

5 Stars toshiba 55″ Regza tv
We replaced our 55″ Toshiba rear projector tv with this 55″ Toshiba HDTV and it’s everything that we had hoped for. The picture is beautiful, the sound is great and we just couldn’t ask for a better tv. I also feel that purchasing through Amazon gave us great confidence that the product would be as expected! The price was great and the delivery company was amazing!

1 Star Problem I got with Toshiba TV
I had a similar experience as PS “PS” had. My 52″ Regza got thick black vertical band after 14 months and became useless. Repair cost quoted exceeded a new unit price. I personally will stay away from Toshiba TV. A local service technician told me it is a common problem with Toshiba LCD panel. It is a shame because I loved my Regza so much and I would have recommended it for everybody if it did not fail so soon.

By the way, GE extended warranty only paid small fraction of replacement cost. It did not help much.

Toshiba REGZA 40XV645U 40 Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Black

The XV645 series combines the REGZA Engine (PixelPure 5G & Resolution+) with ClearFrame 120Hz for superior picture quality, and adds the bottom Deep Lagoon design for an appearance that also stands out from the pack. ClearFrame 120Hz, doubles the video frames from 60 per second to 120 per second to reduce any motion blur that could be caused by fast action video. By using advanced motion vector frame interpolation, it improves picture clarity without affecting picture brightness or adding flicker. For those that prefer a more film-like picture, there is also a 5:5 Pull-Down option available. Resolution+, some video content is in high definition (HD), but some is still in standard Definition (SD). However, REGZA virtually levels the content playing field with Resolution+. Resolution+ is super resolution technology that upconverts and enhances 480i, 480p, and even 720p content to create a sharper, more detailed picture. With REGZA and Resolution+ all of your standard DVDs, SD TV channels, camcorder videos, and even SD video games will feel like HD. 1 Star do NOT buy
This isn’t just a review of the television, it’s a review of Toshiba customer service as well. So here’s what happened: bought the tv, worked great for about a month, then the picture started deteriorating (vertical streaks) somewhat depressing that this happened, since it was new, but this sort of thing does happen, so no biggie. called toshiba, they gave me a number of an independent service provider to call. called them and the tv was picked up to be fixed. THAT WAS SIX WEEKS AGO! repeated calls to both toshiba and the service dept resulted in finger-pointing, toshiba claiming it was the service provider who was procrastinating, the service rep saying that toshiba needed to approve the fix and send them a part. after a month and a half of this i just want my money back (and no toshiba won’t suck it up and just send me a new TV, the warranty only states that the tv needs to be “fixed” – no time constraints on that one, fyi!) Anyway, it’s bad enough to part with a grand for something that doesn’t work, but the delay here is really appalling. Now it must be said that the toshiba customer service people were unfailingly polite. But the issue is simple: gimme my fixed tv or gimme my money… neither seems to be in the offing. Ergo: STAY AWAY FROM TOSHIBA!!!!!!

1 Star BUYER BEWARE
Worked great for a week and then died. Toshiba was responsive answering the phone and we had an in home service technician in the house within a few days. It took Toshiba over 2 weeks to approve the replacement of the LCD panel and now they are out of stock. We have been without a TV for over a month now. Toshiba continues to say our only option is to wait for the part and they can’t give us an estimate of when it will be in. They certainly aren’t interested in satisfied customers.

Do not buy this or any Toshiba LCD TV.

5 Stars As a PC Display
I just got this TV a few days ago. I don’t watch much television, only a movie now and then, LOST, and a few subtitled anime shows I download a few days after they air in Japan. I bought this mostly to be my PC monitor for games, internet, and photoshop art.

I used a DVI-D to HDMI cable to connect it, however, I couldn’t use it in any widescreen resolution but 1280×720. 1600×1200 was the best resolution I could get, but that wasn’t widescreen. It was only a gpu drivers issue, and a quick update of the drivers and Catalyst Control Center was enough to take care of the problem. Now I’m running 1920×1080 in Windows, which is awesome on this display. World of Warcraft on max graphics settings in 1080p looks amazing. The colors and the blacks just pop! I can’t wait to try out a newer game with more cutting edge graphics!

I highly recommend this TV for anyone who wants a 40″ PC display. To think I almost spent 300 dollars more for a similar Sony or Samsung. As long as this thing lasts, this TV is way better than I could have imagined and I think it was absolutely the right choice amongst my options.

Other things to note-

To be honest, the sound might not blow your socks off, but it’s solid and clear. The Sony and Samsung cases/frames look better IMO too, but that’s purely cosmetic.

Picture is surprisingly good with normal non HD cable in 480.

4 Stars Excellent picture and okay sound.
(This review is for the Toshiba Regza 40XV645U LCD television.)

A note about rating this TV:

If price were no object: 4-Star Rating

Price considering: 5-Star Rating

This is a great TV! All of us in the family really like it. Even the piano black narrow frame around the screen looks great (about 1.5″ wide at the top and sides and 3″ at the bottom). Even though the frame is a glossy black finish, it surprisingly doesn’t disturb the daytime viewing experience at all.

We wanted a second TV in our home for a brightly lit room and we were also limited to a 40-inch screen size because of available space, so we ended up choosing the Toshiba Regza 40XV645U LCD TV. (Also see my review of the Pioneer PDP-5080HD Plasma TV in August 2007, if you are interested).

Because of our requirements for our second TV to have a bright picture and not to be sensitive to burning-in issues, we decided on an LCD TV. We compared the Toshiba 40XV645U to the following currently locally available 40-inch LCD (and LED backlit) TVs:

Samsung LN40B610 / LN40B650 / UN40B6000 / UN40B7000;

Sony KDL-40Z5100 / KDL-40XBR9;

Toshiba 40RV525R / 42ZV650U; and

LG 42LH30 / 42LH40 / 42LH55 / 42LH70.

When price was considered, no other TV came close to the Toshiba 40XV645U. Absolutely nothing else! We did not want a shiny, glossy screen (we were afraid of daytime reflections), so many of the above sets were eliminated because of that. The Toshiba ZV650U has a very nice but glossy, reflective screen and cost $1,500 CAD at the time. The RV525R does not have the 120Hz frame rate or the Resolution+ feature. With the XV645U you can turn the frame rate On (120Hz) or Off (60Hz) – called the ClearFrame feature in the Owner’s Manual (you can download a PDF copy from Toshiba.ca before you buy the TV). Also the sound on the RV525R is inferior to that on the XV645U. And the RV525R actually cost more than the XV645U on that day!

We were very impressed with the high-contrast Samsung B650, B6000 and B7000 models at first, and they also have a 1-Tuner Picture-in-Picture (PIP) feature, but the highly reflective glossy screen (Ultra Clear Panel), very poor detail in black images (Samsung is famous for “crushing” their blacks), and triple the cost (for the B6000 and B7000), made us dismiss these sets. The Samsung B610 was not bad, but still had the black-detail problems, and the actual colour richness and backlight strength visibly looked better to us on the Toshiba XV645U (and at the time the Toshiba cost $950 CAD vs. $1,500 CAD for the B610). But the Toshiba XV645U does not have PIP, which we do miss (we especially like to watch Split Screen images – available on the Samsungs only).

In our opinion, the Sony Z5100 is a much better value than the XBR9 ($2,000 CAD vs. $2,700 CAD at the time), and we really couldn’t see any improvement in either the picture quality or the sound by upgrading to the XBR9.

The LH30 and LH40 LG models definitely did not look as good in the showroom as the Toshiba XV645U (lack of depth in white and black colours) and also cost a little more. The LG LH55 and LH70 both have glossy screens and cost about 50% more than the Toshiba. LG too has problems with image details in black. In addition, the viewing angles were quite poor with the LG models. And we were also worried about servicing issues with the LGs (we were warned by some sales persons).

At the end, it came down to deciding between the Toshiba XV645U (at $950 CAD) and the Sony Z5100 (at $2,000 CAD). (I know, it sounds a little funny that we were deciding between these two sets at the end with prices such wide apart, but the Sony Z5100 series looks that good!) Details in black (for example, wrinkles or pinstripes on a black jacket) were best displayed on the Sony Z5100 of any TVs we’ve looked at. We really liked the picture, sound, and some of the other features (like the TV Guide On Screen) on the Sony, but the small improvement in these items just did not justify the huge price difference. However, surprisingly, the black and white contrast ratio is a little better (i.e., deeper) on the Toshiba XV645U! And you can even see this difference in a side-by-side comparison. This is really strange since the Sony has a claimed 100,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio whereas the Toshiba’s is only 50,000:1. (I suspect the Toshiba XV645U must have a higher Static Contrast Ratio than the Sony Z5100.) But if money were no object, the Sony KDL-40Z5100 would certainly be the winner among the TVs we’ve looked at.

Impressions with the Toshiba 40XV645U:

To get a great picture, we set the Backlight to maximum (+50) and adjusted some of the other settings to our personal preference. We also keep the Resolution+ setting at the maximum to give us a clear and defined image. This feature actually works and we are very impressed with it for watching standard definition analog cable channels. There are lots of available adjustments on this TV to keep you busy for a long time or you can just select the default, factory setting.

When the XV645U is turned off, the screen is dark black. This is a good indication that the TV is able to reproduce deep black colours. On some other TVs, when the set is turned off, the screen looks kind of charcoal, or dark gray, instead of black. Also, the Toshiba’s screen is not totally matte, so off-angle viewing is quite good (but not nearly as good as plasma TVs). (The high-gloss LCD TVs have superior off-angle viewing properties, but at the cost of bad daytime reflections.)

The sound is just okay, but many people will hook up their TV to an amplifier with external speakers (we haven’t yet). The sound volume is very good (we listen to the TV at level 20-25 out of a 100). The built-in speakers face downward, toward the floor (at least what I can tell from the location of speaker grille openings). You can hear the dialogue all right, even in a large room while people are talking in the room, but you will get occasional resonance (and a little distortion too) when the volume is kept above a level of 25 (the TV has some problems with reproducing Bass levels). There is also a Voice Enhancement feature (On or Off) that emphasizes dialogue over the music you hear – it helps a little bit. And the StableSound feature is supposed to keep the volume level the same from channel to channel (I couldn’t tell). To our ears, turning other Advanced Sound Settings On, like the Stereo Extension or Dynamic Bass Boost, just seemed to distort the speakers a little more at higher volume levels.

The Analog Closed Caption (set on CC1 text) has a very small font size when compared to our Pioneer TV, but the letters are all in capital and nicely spread apart, so they are legible. One benefit of the smaller size is that the Closed Captioning covers up less area of the screen. Not only that, but when you enlarge letter box programs (to fill the screen) on this Toshiba, parts of the Closed Captioning text doesn’t disappear at the bottom of the screen like with our Pioneer TV! But there is no direct CC button on the Remote, so you’ll have to go into the Menu Settings to turn this feature on or off when you want to. However, when you press the Mute button twice (the first press lowers the Volume to one-half), Closed Captioning is automatically activated. Closed Captioning is not available for the three HDMI Inputs, unless that feature is encoded in the DVD (under language options).

The TV is very slow changing channels. When using the Channel Up and Down button, there is a delay of about 3 seconds to display the next channel (already too long), but when you punch in a Channel Number using the number buttons, there is a much longer delay (about 6 seconds). However, you can cut this time in half if you press the Enter button right after the Channel Number. Turning the TV on can be slow or fast, depending on how you set your Power-Up Mode option in the Setup Menu screen. But switching Input Sources is very fast using a single scroll button for all choices.

Overall, I highly recommend this Toshiba TV. It is an excellent value and the picture quality is fantastic. We can get a really clear and sharp image on analog broadcast (we do not subscribe to Digital or High Definition Channels) after some Picture adjustments (even without accessing the Expert Mode under the Advanced Picture Settings menu). Okay, so we can’t get the same colour depth and accuracy as with the Pioneer plasma, no matter how much we try to adjust the Picture, but you will not go wrong with this TV overall. Excellent high contrast, non-glare, super clear picture!

One bonus we’ve noticed with this Toshiba is that during the Auto Tuning Setup, the TV also picked up some Audio Only Digital Channels (from our analog cable service) through which we can listen to radio stations. And the Toshiba’s speakers even sound a little better on these digital channels! Our much more expensive Pioneer plasma can’t access these music channels at all (as far as we can tell).

One last thing: If you want to install this Toshiba on a wall, it needs a Vesa 200 x 400 mm plate (screw holes located at the corners of a 7.87-inch by 15.75-inch rectangle). Many of the available wall mounting arms don’t accommodate that size and you will need to find or make an adapter for it.

However, the higher end Sanyo we priced was $[...] more than the Toshiba.

5 Stars Superb LED LCD TV right out of the box!
Ordered this TV around the beginning of August. Amazon shipping said to expect it on the 14th. It arrived on the 12th, lucky I had just returned home because I was all set for the 14th! Anyway, The delivery guy carries it in, takes it out of the box and set it on the stand for my old Sony Bravia.(Since I didn’t put the new stand together yet. He then helps me take the old TV down to its new location in the basement rec room. (Nice of him!) We plug in the new Toshiba and I connect it to my cable HD DVR box with the new HDMI cable I also purchased from Amazon. It works! Beautifully! The sound is better than expected. The picture, especially the HD channels is great and the colors and contrast are fantastic. Everything I expected and more. The Dolby sound leveling seems to work (still checking). Our collection of wide screen DVD’s looks great. Maybe because of the Resolution+ upscaling. So check out all the features and compare the price with the only LED TV somewhat similar: Sony’s BR8 series. I think you’ll be very pleased with this new Toshiba 46SV670U (55SV670U is similar). By the way, mine was manufactured in JULY 2009!

I’ll update this if problems develop.

Well, it’s now October and this TV is still the best. And it’s great to be able to plug in a SD picture card and watch a slideshow or plug in an USB flash drive and play music or other media.

I’ll update this if problems develop.

5 Stars Great TV – Amazing
Unless you want an inch thin LCD TV, this should be your TV of choice. I went to Sixth Avenue where they had an exceptionally large selection of LCD and Plasma TVs. This TV had the best picture quality of any LCD TV they had. I was planning on getting a Samsung 1080P 120Hz thin LED TV (could not quite swallow the price of the 240Hz) model until I read reviews of streaks in the picture quality when watching the TV in a dark room. I then moved on to the less expensive non LED Samsung 240Hz LCD TV which is still $400 more than this Toshiba. Luckily, the salesperson asked me to take a look at this TV first. This TV is back-lit LED which makes the TV thicker, but provides better picture quality than the side-lit LEDs in the thin Samsung. The 240Hz was a real bonus–especially in a TV that sells for this price. I have had the TV for a month now and could not be happier with it. I have had friends that visit comment that this TV has the best picture quality they have ever seen in any TV. This is the best 46-inch LCD TV you can buy that sells for a price that’s unbelievably low when compared to the competition. It might not be the thinnest LCD LED TV, but it does have the best quality picture in any LCD TV. It is just one awesome TV.

Toshiba REGZA 42ZV650U 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240 Black

Toshiba REGZA 42ZV650U 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240 Black

If your digital camera uses an SD memory

5 Stars Black Border !
I have had this TV for a few weeks now. It is the first LCD-TV that I bought. I am very happy with it. I connected it to one of my PC which I am using it right now to write this review as a PC-monitor. The resolution is great. I added a Blu-Ray internal drive for less than $60 (player software included) to this PC and have been watching Blu-Ray movie with this set up. The pictures were stunning clear and beautiful on many of the movies.

In the beginning… there is a black border around the picture. For a while I did not know what to do. I notice that there are a few selections for the picture size: full, theater wide 1-3, 4:3 and native. Native gives the best resolution but with the black border while theater wide would cut off the picture but use all the screen. My PC equip with an ATI graphic adapter and the following was what I did to resolve the black border issue. If you have a different graphic adapter, there may be a similar solution.

Open Catalyst Control Center(CCC)

Go to desktops & displays

Right click on the small monitor icon on the bottom left corner

Choose configure.

Note: CCC showed that this TOSHIBA REGZA 42ZV650U reported a maximum refresh rate of 75Hz, which is the best that I seen on a LCD flat panel. There are many setting here, but do not apply any setting that your monitor do not support.

Select HDTV Support tab, and check the box that show the Correct Display Format that your LCD support. Click on apply after everything is set.

Other information: Vista 64, Catalyst Version 9.8, ATI Radeon HD 3870, DVI-HDMI cable, and this TOSHIBA REGZA 42ZV650U.

5 Stars Very nice
This is a great tv. It was a snap to connect. My mom liked it, so she bought one too.

1 Star Regza is a defective line
I’ve had 2 of these broken within 16 months and 1 at my parents house. This leads me to believe that there is a major quality problem with Toshiba or at the very least the Regza line. The repair is 4 times more expensive than a new unit and Toshiba referred me to a repair shop that does not accept any credit/debit cards only CASH and, as I found out later, is on BBB’s “red list”. Surely, I was charged hundreds of dollars for “diagnostics” and the TV was returned to me in its original condition(broken). Toshiba took no actions and continues to send its customers to the same service center(I checked). Just be careful with your money.

4 Stars Great TV
I ended up buying this tv at Best Buy (they matched the price that Amazon provided) 2 months ago. The image quality is great!

I am a bit confused, I thought that the Xbox 360 was not able to produce 1080p resolution (I have the white one with component connections), but the tv says otherwise?

The only other issue was with the sound(why it only rates 4 stars from me). When I first bought the TV I was using its speakers. After an hour of playing a Blu-ray movie the sound would sometimes start freaking out on me. I would start hearing echoes and robotic type noises that got progressively worse. When I would turn the TV off the Blu-Ray player would also turn off so i would have to wait 3-5min before resuming my movie. After rebooting, everything was fine. Once I hooked up the surround sound system I have never had any problems.

Once reading the manuel, I learned that the Toshiba logo can also be turned off, it got annoying sometimes during films.

Beware surround sound users, some receivers downgrade the image quality. You will also need to buy another HDMI cable (Blu-Ray player to receiver, then the other cable from the receiver to the tv) and make sure they will support 240hz!

5 Stars Great value – awesome features for less than a grand
I swore based on many online and magazine ratings to only purchase either a Sony or Samsung LCD TV (same manufacturing anyways). I never really considered the Toshiba Regza line until I saw it on display at an architectural exhibit. The colors and detail were absolutely stunning. Despite what CNET described as not that good, the darks were actually really visible and even more so because Toshiba added a more detailed color tweaking menu for the videophiles out there. The menu is VERY simple to understand – and my particular favorite navigation part is the ability to switch inputs so quickly using the left/right toggle buttons.

The sound quality is amazing. There are many built in options here as well. Dolby sound, surround, etc. The speakers are so well hidden and yet sound great.

Other features I love are all the HDMI inputs, an SD Card slot (we can watch slide shows from people’s cameras), and the USB port (WOW you can watch DIVX movies, listen to MP3s etc from an external drive!!!)

I haven’t really given the Clearscan 240 feature a chance yet because I’m waiting for the football games on sunday, but I’m very happy so far with the 120Hz smooth performance. Again, excellent value for all the features you get.
