5 Stars This is a great television and easy to use.
I have had this television for two weeks. I got it after being greatly disappointed with a Vizio 37 inch 1080p. The difference between the two was very noticeable. The picture and sound are far superior. Even when comparing to the 720p LG 37 inch, this one is much better. The television was very easy to set up. The amount of HDMI, component and AV inputs are more than adequate for any standard home theater set up. I read one review that gave this television low marks for not having a headphone jack. I feel that if you are going to get a television of this caliber, you will get a good receiver that supports headphones. I feel that is an unimportant option and I prefer having that fourth HDMI port. The energy saving option is a nice addition, although if you get a lot of sun, you need to keep that setting low during the day. All menu options are easy to navigate. I love that the television knows what types of connections you have. When scrolling through inputs, it highlights the inputs that have devices connected. Overall, this is a great TV and I highly recommend it.
4 Stars So far so good
I’ve had this product for about a month and have had no problems. I currently have my satellite dish, x-box, laptop and wii hooked up 2 it. The x-box and computer look awesome….I absolutly destroy people in cod4 becuase of the picture and the speed. My laptop looks really well also, my laptop screen is 1200p but still works well on the tv. I bought the tv because I love hockey and wanted a really quick response time; my LG has the best picture I’ve seen so far for hockey. The menu is easy to use and adjusting the picture with as much detail as you want is simple. The tv saves your settings for each different input, this feature makes things very convenient. The only bad thing I can say is that original viewing settings are all dark, I’ve had to adjust them all to get a picture I want. Sound is decent nothing great but not bad. Overall I would recomend, the response time is awesome and the tv cost only around 200 dollars more then tv’s with response times not even half as fast.
5 Stars Best current option at 37″ for the money
We recently grew tired of our old CRT 37″ behemoth 10-year old Samsung TV and decided to join the HD world. Since our entertainment center can only hold up to 37″ we were limited in options (no plazma, not a ton of 37″ out there for LCD either compared to other more popular sizes). We shopped around, checked prices and reviews, then went to a store and looked at many of them in person, deliberately going on a Sunday afternoon so football would be playing so we could see how well they perform during a sporting event with lots of motion. For the price, the quality of this LG 37LH40 was a no brainer. The only models that looked even close in picture quality were Samsungs that are hundreds of dollars more expensive, and most other 37″ TVs are only 60hz instead of this LG’s 120hz. Setup was simple and we easily have connected the DVR, Blu-ray system, and Wii and have slots of each type remaining we could use for future expansion. Picture quality is very good on standard signals and fantastic on HD signals. Blu-rays look amazing. Good sound from the TV itself and the clear voice feature is nice. Remote is very intuitive and all setting are very easy to adjust. Nice picture and audio features. Very happy with this purchase (also integrates almost seamlessly with our LG Blu-ray home theater system – they recognize each other, etc.)
4 Stars Perfect size
It does almost everything we wanted. Just wish it had an optical sound input for the computer rather then the old pin style one.
4 Stars LG37LH40 LCDTV
This tv performs all the normal tasks as per spec’s.
The biggest flaws are:
1. The lack of printed manual.
2. The remote is chintzy, and isn’t lighted.
My biggest Pluses are:
1. Great picture quality.
2. Good on board speakers.
3. Lots of HDMI ports.
4. Attractive appearance.
One special alert:
1. My DirecTV remote didn’t list LG as a recognized TV.
a.You must KNOW that LG = LUCKY GOLDSTAR in the DirecTv remote
codes list. Then you can proceed to program the sat.’remote.
This is really a criticism of DirecTv, not LG.
A more robust remote and a printed manual would make this set a 5 star buy in my book.

5 Stars Great Deal, Amazing picutre. Buy it!
Just purchased this TV two days ago from a local home entertainment store. Got it for $1050, a steal! Since Best Buy had it for 1079, I got the price down a little more.
I did lots of research and read tons of reviews. I was considering the Sony V5100 series and all of the Samsungs 650 series and up. This beats both of them. Do not listen to bad reviews about LG, none of them apply to this tv or any of LG’s newer TVs, and don’t compare pictures between this and other TV brands at best buy or FRYs because TV calibration can be way off at those big chain stores.
I compared side by side at home entertainment stores with the Sony (way overpriced) and the Samsung 630B and 650B. The Sony is nothing special looking on the outside and the picture doesn’t blow you away. The Samsung, you lose so much detail in the color because the screens are way too bright. I saw side by side the Samsung’s reds were so pink and its greens so bright and fake, a red flower on the LG was dark and beautiful and you could see all of its fine lines and folds…however on the Samsung it was pink and the lines and folds faded because you lost that detail. Samsung just looks to artificial and bright for me and I don’t like that. Also the LG isn’t a glossy screen so you never have to worry about light reflecting from the screen. The blacks are very nice as well, I mean it isn’t an LED or plasma but the average consumer cannot tell that much anymore with LCDs becoming so good.
The LG was recommended by two very good home entertainment stores over the sony and the Samsung. It is just such a good deal and I liked the picture more, truer colors, very deep blacks and a classy look on the outside. Not to forget the speakers are much much better than the Samsungs, and the LG has the intelligent sensor which detects light in your room and adjusts the panel for how bright or dark you room is, to make picture calibration automatic and more accurate for the setting.
It is a truly amazing TV for the money, I mean if you want to overspend for a SONY go ahead and if you want the top, top of the line, this obviously isn’t your set but it is a damn good TV. I mean keep it for 4 or 5 years and then the next big thing LED or OLED will be out, so whats the point in spending $2K+ today when in a few years your TV will be old news.
Go for the bargain and just get this TV, its an incredible set.
5 Stars LG 47″ LCD, 47LH40, A++
First thing I want to say here is that I spent 2 weeks in and out of different electronics stores, comparing technologies and brands and features to narrow down the best HDTV’s in the 46-47″ range. Of coarse the Sony Bravia was the #1, but it is over $[...].
This TV came in on my #1, for it’s 120Hz “TrueMotion” picture, and true 1080p quality. So I bought it.
For three weeks now I have had the pleasure of owning this HDTV, and let me make some things straight about other reviews.
1. The TrueMotion 120Hz feature is a little strange at first. What it does, is it puts a skinny Blur around the outline of an object in motion, causing that object to look LIFELIKE when it moves. This applies to people walking, trees swaying, and footballs flying. After about two days of watching, you may get used to it. I got used to it, and LOVE IT. It is now weird for me to watch other TV’s without this. However, if you do not get used to it, you can turn off the TrueMotion feature and just have a 120Hz refresh rate.
2. The lip-sync. The LG TV is as smart as they come. It will take about 4 hours of TV time for it to calibrate itself to your cable-box or satellite-receiver. Also, depending on your HDMI cable usage, the problem can be solved by going on Amazon.com and buying a $[...] “Digital Audio Cable” and using that for your TV sound rather than the HDMI cord. Again though, easy fix once you get to know your TV.
3. The 47LH40 has smart picture capability. Which kicks Butt. My TV Room has two great big windows directly across from this TV. By enabling the Smart Picture feature ON, it will sense the light in your room, and adjust its backlight accordingly. I do NOT get any glare, and the picture is always razor sharp!
4. Little-known fact, is that LG makes the TV tuners for Samsung, Sony, Sharp, and Toshiba. So naturally, they will put the best technologies in their own TVs, making it one more reason to love LG.
5. It has 4 HDMI inputs! Which means virtually every component you want to connect (PS3, XBox, DVD player, Blueray, etc…) can connect with the best HD picture.
6. The 80,000 : 1 contrast ratio is deeper blacks for dark-shows and movies. This is truly noticeable. I replaced my 4 year old Samsung 32″ HDTV with this one, and can not believe how much this actually can be noticed once you have another TV to compare it to. My old one had 60,000:1, and deep-blacks would appear “pixelated”… but any scene, day or night, a lot or a little detail, looks just as good (or better) than it would in person!
Now that I have given you a few reasons to consider this TV, I just want to say that in the past 3 weeks of me owning this, it has been nothing but excellent. My TV shows have never looked more realistic… Football and (preseason) Hockey make you feel like you are in the stands! And Video Games (PS3 specifically) make you feel part of the game. It is truly a great TV, at a great price, and I highly recommend it. Just have patience, if your lip-sync is off for the first two days, give it time to adjust, or watch the owners-CDROM they give you, you’ll find out how to fix that. Everyone’s cable input is different so the Tuner needs time to adjust itself.
Hope this helped!
1 Star Lip Synch Problem
Had this TV for 20 days before returning it for a Samsung LED and then returning that for a Sony XBR. The LG has some real lip synch problems (go to Best Buy’s site if you want to see more). When watching HD channels the voice would come a split second after the lips moved. When I brought the TV back to Best Buy there was no argument. The three associates I dealt with all mentioned that many of the LG’s were being brought back for the same issue. They did mention that there may be an update through LG but I was not going to keep a TV with known problems that I would try and update through a USB. Stay clear of the LG LCDS until this is fixed in my opnion.
4 Stars Very good TV
We just got this TV a couple of days ago, our 42″ Phillips Plasma died and the B— B– 4 year warranty gave us store credit for a new 42″ Plasma. After looking at the 42″ TV’s my wife and I decided to go up in size. This TV has video that is better than the plasma that we replaced, has 4 HDMI ports, with one on the side which is great for hooking up video games real quick, and the HD video from my cable company is amazing. I found myself watching the third Mummy movie (horrible movie by the way) just because the picture was so great. Are there better TV’s out there? Yeah, of course there are, but for the price you get great video quality and many features that some like and others don’t (Truemotion). If you like watching sports in HD this is a great TV.
5 Stars WOWOWOWOWOWOW
This TV is really awesome. Great price miught I say first. $1099.99. That’s a steal when looking at the comparable models. What sold me on this TV was when I saw it handle Transformers BLU-RAY. Man-oh-man… it was crazy nice. These compare well tot he higher end Samsung Models.
APPEARANCE- The TV is stylish, and I really like how slim it is, and also the framing on the TV. Its a nice glossy and elegeant design. The LED power button gives a little accent of color on the bottom right which looks nice.
Construction Quality- No complaints here. Everything looks awesome. It was super-easy to mount it on the wall.. and I gues its gonig to be hanging there for a few years. SO EXCITED!!!
Ease of USE – Controls are great. A nice remote. Easy to set up. The ports in the back are very easy to distinguish.
Picture Quality – The picture really is top notch. I’ve had another SONY 1080P 40 inch TV, but this one seems to be better. I think its the 80,000:1 contrast ratio and 120hz. I couldn’t be more pleased
Sound Quality – I’m not going to dock anything really. I don’t use the sound form the TV because I have speakers. Through mys peakers, the sound is AWESOME!
Connectivity – Easy to attach stereo cords and device cords. 3 HDMI slots!! Wow, cable, PS3 amd BOX hooked up all at the same time? What could be better?
FINAL:
I don’t really see any cons with this tv.. I have to say I’m impressed.

5 Stars Very pleased with our LG LH40 55″ HDTV
We’re happy with the LG 55″, sound and picture quality are excellent, tho it now has an add-on sound bar and sub-woofer. The TV arrived on time, the guys carried it all the way to the room where it was to be installed; even concerned about the box getting the carpet diry in that room and asked for a blanket or towel. The delivery men removed it from the box and were willing and ready to hook it up for me, a service from them we didn’t need.
This is our first “big TV”, the biggest previous to this being 37″. We’re thrilled with the HD picture, even the looks of this TV.
5 Stars Should be a Bestseller
I nearly pulled the trigger on a Samsung 55″ model but while chasing the cheapest price, ran across this LG at Best Buy for $1799. Detailed info is hard to find, but it was available for store pickup so I took a chance without seeing it first since I could return it easily. I am glad I did. I cannot imagine a better picture. Observations:
Container is 56-1/2″ x 40″ x 21″ with 2 hand holds on each end. Two adult males handled it without much difficulty. Comes with stand attached. Clip the bands, lift the bottomless box up and put it where you want it. I did not, but plan on 3 people to wall mount it.
You are not going to get home theater audio out of any unit without a subwoofer. It is simple physics. This one sounds pretty good for what it is. You can easily connect it to a home theater system with the Digital Audio Out or RCA ports. It has no separate Subwoofer Out port.
I read an article that expounded on the limitations of the human eye to distinguish contrast at any one light level. Think of waiting for your eyes to adjust to bright or dark conditions. The point made is that contrast specs are BS. Test eqpt might measure another TV as having more range than this one, but I don’t think your eyes would detect a difference. This TV has good black levels and maintains them as you crank up the brightness. I still think plasma has the best picture but can’t live with its shortcomings. I question the benefit of LCD LED backlight beyond reduced energy consumption and a skinnier unit. Maybe it improves black levels?
If you have digital cable as a primary source, don’t blame muddy dark areas on a TV. It is just excessive compression they use to save bandwidth. Sat TV is generally better. OTA broadcast is beautiful. Everything falls short of 1080P DVD. A gamma adjustment can help tweak this problem. This TV has some “expert adjustments” including gamma and black level. I haven’t played with them, yet.
One of the imaging engineers I work with gave me a chart that shows the limitations of the human eye with respect to HD. Per the chart, you have to get a lot closer than normal viewing distances to see the difference between 480, 720, or 1080 resolution. This TV is big enough that it might matter to some folks and it looks great up close. I start to see the screen door effect at about a 24″ viewing distance. Even with eagle eyes you would not see it at a comfortable viewing distance.
SD content looks very good but you can’t make it HD. The interpolation algorithms work well. NTSC (the old analog standard, what you get from a VCR) is 320 x 240. Standard DVD is 480P. This is an area where you could see big differences between products.
TV’s are moving toward becoming personal computers. I can see future units having a PDA for a remote and full capabilities. That will be cool. I can’t wait. This one doesn’t have any of that except a USB port for displaying pictures and playing music. It appears that computer capability is what makes a big difference in price. In my opinion, the most capable units are still pretty lame. This is the bottom of the line model but the only difference is the computer features. This TV has a PC port. Online streaming content is 480P, at best, and extremely compressed. I don’t think it looks good on a big screen.
Menus are well designed. This TV makes it easy to optimize to your preferences. I did not like the “Auto” setting for picture brightness. I wanted it brighter. Otherwise, the initial setup wizard did the job.
No S-video. Seems like it is being dropped by the manufacturers.
I would like to have 2 antenna inputs but the only TV I found that has two is Mitsubishi.
Since broadcast frame rates are around 30 fps and interlaced only refreshes half of the lines, I think the effectiveness of 120hz (240hz)refresh rate is pretty subjective and content specific. Same goes for the 24 fps movie source stuff on DVD. This TV has settings for these features. If I find them useful, I will update this review.
I could gush awhile, but I think I will watch the TV instead. When you read other reviews that gush, apply them to this one.
Thanks to all of you who share your opinions and experiences with us. It helps a lot. For TV, even visiting a store will not help much because they do not optimize the picture and the store lighting is usually green. So the brightest one tends to draw your eye.
5 Stars Beautiful Television
Great picture, decent sound quality, easy to setup. Worked right out of the box, no problems.
