5 Stars Toshiba REGZA 55ZV650U
Researched for a while, and was leaning towards a Samsung LCD until I came across this Toshiba. Just seemed like a better value to me given the size and feature set. Great picture, blacks seem fine to me despite some other commentary that I’ve read from others. I’m very happy with this purchase.

5 Stars Excellent TV – but
THis is an excellent TV. Picture quality is amazing and there is excellent connectivity ports on the back and side.

The viewing angle is amazing also – as good as a plasma. Can be viewed from all angling in our living room with no problems.

The only complaint is that occasionally the sound get weird – after watching for a while (2 hours or more) sometimes the sound gets distorted. When you turn it off and back on again it is fixed.

I not sure what is causing this but it may be that I have surround sound and I’m not using it?

Anyways – this happens very rarely and it is a very minor problem and may be something with my hookup.

I would recommend this TV – excellent TV.

5 Stars You can’t beat the price and performance…
This TV is everything I was looking for and more. You can’t get a better TV for the price; you can hardly get a better TV by paying more. I have a good friend who paid twice as much for a Samsung LED TV, his picture quality does not match the Toshiba.

The TV was delivered to my living room by a delivery company in town. I have to move every couple of years for my work so I was pleased to see the quality of the box the TV came in. It has latches down one side and around the entire bottom portion of the box.

It comes mounted on the stand and ready to sit on a piece of furniture. I didn’t wall mount so I am not sure how difficult mounting would be.

The TV looks gorgeous without it even being turned on. Toshiba did a great job on the design.

As I mentioned, the picture quality is amazing. I am a sports fan and haven’t seen a picture this nice until now. The Toshiba ClearScan 240 handles the speed of the games. All of the HD Discovery and Science channels are breathtaking. I have the TV sitting with 3 large windows to one side. I was concerned about how the light would affect the picture during the day. The TV is bright enough to overpower the light from the windows. It has an ambient light sensor and automatically adjusts the picture. It also has a special coating to prevent reflections of ambient light.

The features of this TV are amazing. Check them out at regza.com for yourself. I also considered Samsung and Sony. I found this TV to have better specs and features than the other brands. The price of the Toshiba makes it a no brainer.

5 Stars toshiba 55″ Regza tv
We replaced our 55″ Toshiba rear projector tv with this 55″ Toshiba HDTV and it’s everything that we had hoped for. The picture is beautiful, the sound is great and we just couldn’t ask for a better tv. I also feel that purchasing through Amazon gave us great confidence that the product would be as expected! The price was great and the delivery company was amazing!

1 Star Problem I got with Toshiba TV
I had a similar experience as PS “PS” had. My 52″ Regza got thick black vertical band after 14 months and became useless. Repair cost quoted exceeded a new unit price. I personally will stay away from Toshiba TV. A local service technician told me it is a common problem with Toshiba LCD panel. It is a shame because I loved my Regza so much and I would have recommended it for everybody if it did not fail so soon.

By the way, GE extended warranty only paid small fraction of replacement cost. It did not help much.

5 Stars Black Border !
I have had this TV for a few weeks now. It is the first LCD-TV that I bought. I am very happy with it. I connected it to one of my PC which I am using it right now to write this review as a PC-monitor. The resolution is great. I added a Blu-Ray internal drive for less than $60 (player software included) to this PC and have been watching Blu-Ray movie with this set up. The pictures were stunning clear and beautiful on many of the movies.

In the beginning… there is a black border around the picture. For a while I did not know what to do. I notice that there are a few selections for the picture size: full, theater wide 1-3, 4:3 and native. Native gives the best resolution but with the black border while theater wide would cut off the picture but use all the screen. My PC equip with an ATI graphic adapter and the following was what I did to resolve the black border issue. If you have a different graphic adapter, there may be a similar solution.

Open Catalyst Control Center(CCC)

Go to desktops & displays

Right click on the small monitor icon on the bottom left corner

Choose configure.

Note: CCC showed that this TOSHIBA REGZA 42ZV650U reported a maximum refresh rate of 75Hz, which is the best that I seen on a LCD flat panel. There are many setting here, but do not apply any setting that your monitor do not support.

Select HDTV Support tab, and check the box that show the Correct Display Format that your LCD support. Click on apply after everything is set.

Other information: Vista 64, Catalyst Version 9.8, ATI Radeon HD 3870, DVI-HDMI cable, and this TOSHIBA REGZA 42ZV650U.

5 Stars Very nice
This is a great tv. It was a snap to connect. My mom liked it, so she bought one too.

1 Star Regza is a defective line
I’ve had 2 of these broken within 16 months and 1 at my parents house. This leads me to believe that there is a major quality problem with Toshiba or at the very least the Regza line. The repair is 4 times more expensive than a new unit and Toshiba referred me to a repair shop that does not accept any credit/debit cards only CASH and, as I found out later, is on BBB’s “red list”. Surely, I was charged hundreds of dollars for “diagnostics” and the TV was returned to me in its original condition(broken). Toshiba took no actions and continues to send its customers to the same service center(I checked). Just be careful with your money.

4 Stars Great TV
I ended up buying this tv at Best Buy (they matched the price that Amazon provided) 2 months ago. The image quality is great!

I am a bit confused, I thought that the Xbox 360 was not able to produce 1080p resolution (I have the white one with component connections), but the tv says otherwise?

The only other issue was with the sound(why it only rates 4 stars from me). When I first bought the TV I was using its speakers. After an hour of playing a Blu-ray movie the sound would sometimes start freaking out on me. I would start hearing echoes and robotic type noises that got progressively worse. When I would turn the TV off the Blu-Ray player would also turn off so i would have to wait 3-5min before resuming my movie. After rebooting, everything was fine. Once I hooked up the surround sound system I have never had any problems.

Once reading the manuel, I learned that the Toshiba logo can also be turned off, it got annoying sometimes during films.

Beware surround sound users, some receivers downgrade the image quality. You will also need to buy another HDMI cable (Blu-Ray player to receiver, then the other cable from the receiver to the tv) and make sure they will support 240hz!

5 Stars Great value – awesome features for less than a grand
I swore based on many online and magazine ratings to only purchase either a Sony or Samsung LCD TV (same manufacturing anyways). I never really considered the Toshiba Regza line until I saw it on display at an architectural exhibit. The colors and detail were absolutely stunning. Despite what CNET described as not that good, the darks were actually really visible and even more so because Toshiba added a more detailed color tweaking menu for the videophiles out there. The menu is VERY simple to understand – and my particular favorite navigation part is the ability to switch inputs so quickly using the left/right toggle buttons.

The sound quality is amazing. There are many built in options here as well. Dolby sound, surround, etc. The speakers are so well hidden and yet sound great.

Other features I love are all the HDMI inputs, an SD Card slot (we can watch slide shows from people’s cameras), and the USB port (WOW you can watch DIVX movies, listen to MP3s etc from an external drive!!!)

I haven’t really given the Clearscan 240 feature a chance yet because I’m waiting for the football games on sunday, but I’m very happy so far with the 120Hz smooth performance. Again, excellent value for all the features you get.

5 Stars Awesome TV
This television is exceptional. Not only for the price, but the picture is incredible. I love it and when my other 2 small TVs (that are at least 10 years old each) bite the dust, I’m going to buy 2 more. Reading other reviews for this helped me decide to purchase this brand. I’m so glad I did.

4 Stars TV
Good picture, good sound quality, but slow response when changing channels . . . this television is a reasonably good buy.

5 Stars Toshiba 19 inch HDTV
What a joy. We really like it. For years we have had a 10 inch CRT TV in our kitchen. We recently installed Verizon’s FIOS so I decided to buy the smallest LCD TV I could find. Then found this in Amazon’s outlet warehouse as an open box item. I don’t know why we waited so long to buy and LCD TV. Its great.

5 Stars Good small room tv.
Very good picutre and good, acceptable sound (which isn’t the norm for tv’s this size). Easily mounted it on a Peerless articulating arm.

5 Stars Super Set Savings!
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2T8Z29ZRSFQPH This video explains how much I enjoy this HDTV and the aspects on why you should consider it in your own home.

If you would like to know more go to your local stores, or read some more of this great reviews.

I forgot to mention in the review that the tuner inside picks up many channels and the HD channels off air are amazing! Just as great as a 1080p set, but listed as a 720 it works 1080 gorgeous.

Amazon.com has the most affordable price listed on this set.

I know how valuable time is, so this review and all of mine is done is 3 minutes even.

Go ahead time me.

1 Star 2 Replacements, Various Critical Problems
(I urge you to read this review before making a purchase, I know I wrote a lot, but they outline some very critical deal-breaking issues.)

My first HDtv, a Sylvania broke about after 2 years, and I decided to get this Sony after doing a bunch of HDtv research. I’m using the HD capabilities for gaming (Playstation 3 at 1080p, Wii at 480p) and just getting a regular coaxial cable signal for my TV shows.

1) First, as can be seen in various reviews for this TV, there are some sound issues. The one I experienced was that, sometimes, the speakers would get very pop/crackling sounding and also have an echo on top of that. This issue happened when you changed channels. You’d land on a channel, and the issue would begin and would not go away unless you changed channels (I left it on for a couple hours just for testing purposes). However, this TV has a new firmware on Sony’s support site which apparently directly addresses this issue. The first iteration of this model had the sound issue, but I got it before the new firmware came out, so I sent the first model back, and received the second one. The second one came with the new firmware and there was no more sound issue as far as I could tell.

2) This one bothered me more than the sound issue, as the sound issue only happened about once every 20-50 channel changes, and you could simply remove the echo sound just by changing channels. It’s a visual issue that was not fixed between my first set and the replacement one. It’s hard to describe; when a color would transition from a light color to a dark color in an image, you could see the actual separation lines of each gradient change, rather than just seeing a smooth transition of, for example, light blue to dark blue. It looked sort of like when you throw a stone into a pond, and the water ripples out in a circle from where the stone landed in the water–so the outer ripple would be dark blue, the next inner ripple would be a lighter blue, the inner ripple after that would be an even lighter blue, and so on. I thought maybe it was my PS3, my Wii, or possibly the HDMI/component cables I use for them, so I brought all of my equipment over to a couple friends’ houses and tested my stuff on their Sharp HDtv and a different model Sony Bravia–the issue was not present on my friends’ TVs. However, the issue is present on both KDL-32S5100 sets I had. This issue became very obnoxious when gaming, because it was very noticeable and pretty abundant. It would appear in skies (drastically in skies for some reason), smoke, floors, walls, etc–anything that’s mostly comprised of a solid color that has gradient changes–however, it does not appear on a static image (such as a wallpaper), only something animated. It also appeared when using composite cables, and appeared on every display signal (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p).

-

If you have a PS3 and this model TV, change your system theme to “Original” then change the color to blue–this is a pretty easy way to notice the gradient issue. Generally on the blue color, the bottom left hand corner starts out dark blue, then going to the top right, it changes to a light blue. Around the bottom left hand corner when everything is dark blue, the gradient issue is very noticeable. I asked my friends and family to see if they noticed anything, without telling them what the problem was, and every single one of them (even non-gamers who have no idea what the PS3’s original theme or games’ skies should look like) noticed the issue right away. On any other HDtv I’ve ever seen, this issue is not present. It may not be a big issue for some, but if you’re getting an HDtv, it’s probably because you care about the quality of your display, and you won’t be getting decent quality with this issue present.

-

I had a Sony tech guy come out to look at the issue, and he said he’s never seen the issue before (what a Sony rep would say anyway, whether or not he has seen this issue before :P ) but said he wasn’t sure what was causing it, or even how to fix it. He did confirm, almost immediately, that this is a problem and shouldn’t be happening. Considering this happened on both sets of this model I received, it’s either a) a problem inherent in this model, b) a problem inherent in a certain batch of this model, or c) I’m ridiculously unlucky to get two brand new sets of this model and have the same issue in a row, which is unlikely.

3) After all of this, last night the TV stopped being able to receive signals from all 3 of its HDMI ports. It was very, very odd. My friend and I were playing around on the PS3 and everything was fine (not counting issue 2 described above). We finished, shut the PS3/TV off normally and went to get some coffee. Twenty minutes later we came back and turned on the PS3/TV, except the TV said it wasn’t getting a signal. So, everything was fine->we leave->we come back 20 minutes later->all 3 HDMI ports stopped working. The composite ports work fine as do the component ports. We had 2 different PS3s with 3 different HDMI cables to test out, and none of them worked on this TV, but they both worked on a friend’s Sharp directly after. Totally ridiculous.

I’ll update if I decide to give this model one last try and get yet another replacement, but right now, I’m looking into other brands.

5 Stars Great value!
I’ve always been a Sony fan, and this is our 4th set. Amazon had the lowest price, and the delivery was prompt and professional. Our TV arrived as promised, on schedule, undamaged. The wait was only a few days, and we saved over $200.

3 Stars Sony Bravia sound quality
I like the TV, but I wish I would have saved for a bigger one. Also, sometimes when I am watching television, the sound just goes out on me and it’s not muted. I hope the speakers are not going bad! It is supposed to be brand new. I’ve considering sending it back for a refund.

5 Stars great tv
I bought this tv for my dorm and it is awesome everything looks so nice. Great tv ands the price makes it even better.

2 Stars STOP! STOP! STOP! Serious Audio Issues. Recall?
I love Sony TV’s. They have always had a superior product but this time, this set is highly flawed and Sony is doing its best to still sell the inventory left at lower prices leaving you with an item to return or to tolerate.

The audio is DEFECTIVE on units dated thru AUG 2009. The sound bar on the screen will reflect this distortion on level 1-3. Beyond 3 and up, the louder audio mixes in with the distoration so that you hear less of it. It’s ultra annoying at lower sound settings.

I went into the menu trying various sound settings but was not unable to correct. I then called Sony who said they would make a case number and that a Sony repair agent would have to insert a USB correction device. Wait time was 2 months!

I took mine back to Best Buy and the manager at the store said he could give me another set but that all of them were being returned with sound issues. He said that Sony was almost ignoring the issue trying to avoid a recall.

Another feature missing was a zero 5.1 set up and only 1 HDMI on the rear JACKPACK. One terminal for HDMI is insane in design but Sony does add two more HDMI inputs on the side of the TV for camera or camcorder connections. You could use those if you didn’t mind the wires.

Avoid this Sony.

2 Stars Lag time changing channels is annoying
This has been mentioned before…it takes 3 or 4 seconds to change channels. Annoying. Wish I had returned this television right away.

5 Stars surprising good for the money
This is a smallish TV and is fine for a smallish room. Very good picture, adequate sound, DVD player does what it’s supposed to. Our only complaint is that channel-changing is very slow and there’s no toggling between two channels. Amazingly good instruction booklet! An all-around bargain.

2 Stars Mistaken Purchase
Great picture, streamlined look, easy setup, but lack of volume makes this set useful in only smallest of rooms.

5 Stars Toshiba 19LV506
Picture quality is excellent — including the DVD. I have no trouble with the sound either — I saw complaints about that, but I don’t understand why since it works perfectly for me. So far everything is working very well. I do like the 19 inches for the kitchen — it looks great too. I have satellite TV, I don’t know if that makes a difference to the quality of the sound. I’m pleased.

5 Stars Very Happy!!
This item was a gift to my sister in California who lives in a wooded area – the TV got to her just fine and she loves it – Comcast came out and hooked up her cable and told her it was one of the best TVs they have seen. They said that the tuner inside was so great that she was able to pickup signals that other’s could not – Based on her satisfaction with the Tv – I would highly recommend it!! – My sister was very happy which makes me very happy.- Thank you for the fast shipping and excellent product at such a great price.
