5 Stars Better than average TV
This is a better than average TV. It’s much better than my last LCD TV. It has a nice matte finish for the viewing area and a glossy black border with a clear accent.

Pros

* Good contrast ratio and brightness for an LCD TV.

* 1080p resolution. The best you can get for HD TV.

* 120Hz TruMotion minimizes blur, which you mainly notice on scrolling text on sports or news shows.

* Better than average low shimmer and background noise on areas of similar colors, like the sky or walls with slightly different lighting.

* Minimal digital artifacts (jaggies) for fast moving pictures, like ocean waves and car races.

* Energy saving mode.

* The standby and power on lights can be configured to be off when the TV is in either mode.

* The TV can easily swivel on its base a few degrees either direction.

* The speakers point downward instead of the front, which is good for confined spaces.

* It has a screw hole in the back of the base to attach the TV to something sturdy. This helps prevents tipping when you’re concerned about little kids or earthquakes.

* In addition to simple standard controls for the picture calibration, you can also select expert mode, which has many configuration features, including color and tint for red, green, blue, cyan, yellow and magenta, which I’ve rarely seen on TVs. Most people won’t care about this expert feature that I liked.

* The top of the TV has a flat spot where the Wii sensor bar can rest

Cons

* It takes a few seconds to turn on, but it’s really mesmerizing seeing the power light pulsate on.

* It has no S-Video, but that shouldn’t be a problem for most people because of the other available ports.

Other technical features of note

* 4 HDMI ports (1 on side of TV)

* 0 S-Video ports

* 2 Component video ports

* 2 Composite video (RCA) ports (1 on side of TV)

* 1 Analog RGB PC port

* 1 Optical connection for surround sound.

* 1 Coaxial port for digital/analog cable or antenna TV

* 1 USB port on the back of the TV for photo and music playing. At least that is what the menu says.

5 Stars Excellent LCD TV
While I’ve only had this TV for a few hours, I’m greatly impressed. The picture is wonderful and the sound is great in the small room the TV is in. Although I would like a headphone output, connecting it to a home theater system is easy. Having a USB connection for music and pictures is an interesting feature and the music sounds great. I recommend this TV to anyone looking for an excellent smallish LCD TV.

5 Stars Excellent quality, great price.
Mostly used with my PC. I had to go to a big screen due to my vision. I have an upgraded ATI graphics card and the picture is phenomenal. Also, go DVI from the PC to HDMI into the TV FOR THE BEST DEFINITION and make sure your card is set properly. While watching sports on a 120 Hz 32″ LCD you will see things you’ve probably never seen in the past.

5 Stars Great 2nd TV
This is a good size for a bedroom (where we have it), den, home office, computer monitor – but would be small for a main TV. Before we purchased we had the opportunity to see this LG side-by-side with Sony’s 32XBR9. Having done our research we were expecting to love the Sony. Wrong. The color is better on this LG (its 80,000:1 contrast is better than Sony’s) and the LG has less artifacts with fast action scenes; both the LG and Sony are 120hz but LG’s application seems to work better. Both are full 1080p. The bezel/frame is a bit shiner on the LG (Sony is more matte and nicer in my opinion), but the picture is the thing and we went with the LG. Better picture than the Sony, nice menu features, and even cheaper than the Sony!

3 Stars Beautiful picture with some compatibility issues
Bought mine two days ago after some research indicated it had a better picture than Sony XBR9. A quick comparison in store confirmed that. The first one I bought had a defect with the base. It would not go into the TV far enough to align the holes for the four screws. It went back the next day. The second one assembled fine and I had it up an running quickly with a standard def composite video signal from a Verison FIOS STB. The picture was stunning! Absolutely fantastic! Could’nt wait to get HD input connected. First thing was my Sony BDP-S350 BluRay. No signal could be detected by the LG. Works great on the Samsung Plasma. Next thing was my FIOS HD Box. Aaah, a picture, but no sound?!!!? Tried multiple selections/setups with LG customer service on the phone to no avail. It went back for the Sony XBR9. Connectivity is fine now, just wish I had the stunning LG picture!

1 Star Poor Sournd Quality at low volume levels from internal speakers
First – I like the video. I installed the firmware upgrade and the auto-dimming problem is gone.

Second – the Sound out of the internal speakers is terrible at low volume levels (10 on the TV’s scale). This TV is used in a bedroom – usually at low volume levels with its internal speakers. There is a lot of background noise so that at low volume settings the noise is louder than the programming audio level. My 15 year old NEC had better audio than this box.

Doesn’t matter what programming source : DVD or QAM HD cable on the internal tuner.

A tech is coming over to look into it.

I have not tried this with a receiver yet.

If this is the way the Audio was designed, then don’t buy it for standalone use.

Updated 9/9/09

Tech was here today to work on the TV. He replaced the main board with one that was overnighted from the factory. No change. It still has an annoying amount of static on the audio at low volume levels (10 and under).

5 Stars I love this HDTV
This TV is the best I have ever owned. The 2nd best was my old Sony trinitron with picture/picture. Sony is the best.

5 Stars new era of watching
The new Sony we purchased fulfills or exceeds all our expectations. We have looked at a lot of different LCD-TVs and we found this to have the overall best picture in all different environmental situations. The picture is warm and bright and shows no weaknesses even with fast moving pictures. You can get less expensive LCDs but we find this Sony to be worth its price. I used to have a Samsung LCD back in Europe. This one rocks.

5 Stars Amazing television…
This Sony 40 inch 1080p tv is amazingly beautiful. I had a Panasonic 52″ 1080i rear projection lcd for years that I thought looked pretty good, until it died. I set a budget of $1000 to get a replacement, and came home with this Sony. The 1080p picture immedietly blew me away. Though slightly smaller than my old hd tv, the clarity and vibrant imagry more than make up the difference. I watched an hd feed of “Quantum of Solace” and was amazed at the detail and the crisp picture, no matter how fast the action on screen. No hint of the auto-dim feature from earlier models that bothered so many. I work in the movie industry and a fiend for detail and picture quality; this Sony Bravia has proven itself to be professional grade in every way.

2 Stars Is it a Sony?
Is this really a Sony product? I’ve had some excellent TVs over the years from Sony, including a 42″ LCD that I purchased in 2008 with great results. However, this set has had issues from the beginning that were not resolved by the patch and numerous calls to Sony’s tech help service. The problem with the auto dimming feature only bothers me some of the time but what is perhaps the most irritating is the terrible internal speakers with this unit. It really gets mushy sound performace and I will eventually have to connect it to an outside receiver to get past this issue. After the patch did nothing to correct the problems I had this in a Sony repair facility for two weeks to replace parts and make things right with the picture and the sound. Upon return, it was simply more of the same. I’ve noticed that Amazon is no longer selling this model. Maybe they’ve recognized the issues. For those that are getting good performance, you’re the lucky ones. This will be the last time that I buy a TV on reputation alone, sight unseen. I really wonder if the apparent lack of quality in this model comes from Sony simply slapping their label on some low-end manufactuers work?

LG 37LG50 37 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

LG 37LG50 37 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Displays HDTV programs in full 1920 x 1080p resolution for a more detailed picture.Unlike other sensors which can only sense brightness of ambient light, LG’s “Intelligent Sensor” uses 4,096 sensing steps to evaluate its surroundings. Using a sophisticated algorithm, the LG processes picture quality elements including brightness, contrast, color, sharpness and white balance. The result is a picture optimized for it’s surroundings, more pleasing to watch and which can also save up to 50% in power consumption. The AV Mode optimizes the picture into Cinema, Sports, and game Mode according to the video and audio content. The viewer has the ability to quickly choose the correct mode for the picture they are viewing.Automatically enhances and amplifies the sound of human voice frequency range to help keep dialog audible when background noise swells. This TV contains the detailed calibrations necessary for professional certification by the Imaging Science Foundation. The resulting ISF “day” and “night” modes will then be accessible by the user to experience the best their LG HDTV has to offer.

5 Stars Great TV for the price, no problems.
I purchased this tv in December 2009 and have had zero problems with it. The intelligent sensor is great and adjusts the picture automatically to the light level. HD cable and video games look great in 1080p. Perfect tv for the bedroom like where I have it.

5 Stars Very happy customer
This 37-Inch 1080p LG TV has a fantastic picture. The color is bright and sharp. The design is crisp and clean. Everything we wanted to know about the TV was in the description and specs in the ad on Amazon. We’re very happy with this TV.

5 Stars the best
The tv came in three days it was delivered by a nice couple who carried it in. it was better than going to a store and buying it by the way no store by me had this size. i will buy here again

5 Stars Great TV for a Small Room
This TV looks great in my apartment. Do better TVs exist? Absolutely. Do they cost a LOT more? Absolutely. I have had no regrets of this purchase.

5 Stars Fabulous!
We are extremely pleased with this TV. It was easy to set up, even though the stand screws were a bit funny, like others here have mentioned. However, only 1 of the 4 screws gave us trouble, and that was about 30 seconds or less.

Our prior set was pretty crummy, so I suppose anything short of nothing would be an improvement! However, the picture on this LG is awesome, especially the HD channels. The sound is fine for us and we don’t have surround. I guess if we did, we’d be even happier. For us, it is just great.

If you do NOT like glossy screens, this is the set for you. The matte finish is perfect and there is no glare from any angle. We would highly recommend this set if you need something in the 37″ size.

This cable is the one you want. Small circumference molded jacks. Gold plated connectors. Quality “PRO” cable w/variable lengths available from supplier.

5 Stars Low noise from source
I use this solely for recording from audio/instrument sources directly to my computer. I replaced a previous cable that was “stereo challenged” and a little noisy. This new cable sounds 100 times better.
